The vineyards began to be cultivated from the 3rd millennium BC in Greece. The ancient Greeks were famous for wine trade they had been developing for centuries around the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Vineyards and wine production have existed in Evia since ancient times. Today in the Evia Region there is a significant number of wineries, which produce remarkable labels with international awards and come from private companies / producers and cooperatives. They are scattered throughout the region, especially in central and southern Evia. Wine festivals are also organized in several areas (Vassiliko, Karystos etc.), where the visitor has the opportunity to taste a variety of local wines, food and at the same time listen to popular live music. The above events support the development and promote a new form of tourism, wine tourism. Apart from the production of wine, Evia is also known for the distillation of tsipouro and ouzo, usually by small producers in villages, but also for its beer production.
