The Yellow Fortress is a cannon fortress at the entrance of the "Walled City of Vratnik". It was built between 1727 and 1739 in area called Jekovac, close to the Jajce Barracks and the Jekovac water reservoir. It served as one of the defense points against the Austro-Hungarian troops in 1878. After the burglary of Eugene of Savoy in 1697, it turned out that the small fortress, which was located on the site of today's White Bastion, was not enough to defend the city, so the Bosnian governor Gazi Ahmed-pasha Rustempašić Skopljak in 1729 began building walls around Vratnik. At the ends of the defensive wall, 5 bastions were built, one of which is the Yellow Bastion, named after the yellow stone from which it was built. After the Austro-Hungarian conquest of Sarajevo, the fort lost its function. Today, it is a place with a fascinating view of Sarajevo and is one of Sarajevo's favorite lookouts. It is also the place from which the cannon fires during the Muslim month of Ramadan, which marks the time of sunset and the interruption of all-day fasting.
