Bourazani is a hilly region in the northwestern part of the Prefecture of Ioannina enveloped by the looming mountains of Grammou, Tymfi and the less familiar Nemertsika, on the border with Albania. The area has become widely known in recent years because of its unique environmental educational park, the Wild Life Resort, which extends over an area of 205 hectares and provides refuge for many species of wild animals in Greece – wild sheep, boar, ibex and various kinds of deer. Its purpose is to accommodate the animals, to maintain the balance of the animal population, observe the behaviour of the animals in their natural habitat, gather data on their biological cycles and generally on all matters relating to the flora and fauna of the Bourazani region, as well as to preserve its environment and its culture.
