DELTA DEL PO

It consists of all the river branches and, by extension, the territory between them, the area today is about 18,000 hectares. According to this definition, the delta of the Po falls entirely in the Province of Rovigo or Polesine and occupies almost entirely the eastern portion (from the incile of the Po di Goro to the sea) and also defines itself as active delta. In a broader sense, it encompasses the wider area of the historical delta, namely that between the ancient branches of the Deltas of the Po: there is a time important southern branches of the waterway, including the Po di Volano and the Po di Ferrara or Po di Pri Maro, it would include the part of the Province of Ferrara in the shape of a cusp between the summits of Stellata, Goro Sack and Comacchio Valleys. The contemporary hydraulic layout of the Po delta confirms the most restrictive definition stated above, although the coastal parts of the Province of Ferrara, in particular the one between the mouth of the Po di Goro and the Lido of Volano and the part comprising the Valleys of Ferrara Comacchio, they retain a landscape aspect of typically delitizio - swampy character. The Delta del Po was included in the list of Italian World Heritage sites by UNESCO in 1999 as an extension of the award given to the city of Ferrara in 1995.
