The Comacchio Valleys are a vast protected wetland located in Emilia-Romagna, between the provinces of Ravenna and Ferrara, south of the Delta del Po and north of the Romagna Riviera, constituting one of the largest wetlands in Italy. They are formed by 4 valleys: Lido di Magnavacca, Port Trench, Valle Campo and Fattibello. To the north is the smaller Bertuzzi Valley, separated by a strip of land. They extend geographically from Comacchio to the Rhine River. The extent of the valleys was reduced over time due to the various reclamations carried out, to understand todays borders. The whole area is classified as a site of community interest and special protection zone within the Emilia-Romagna Po Delta Regional Park, of which it is an integral part. Today the valleys are of considerable biological and conservation importance thanks to the high number of rare and endangered species that reproduce here, especially the bird life among which stands out the pink flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus).
