At the Museum of Typography and Technology of the University of Ioannina, the visitor encounters exhibits dating back to the 18th century and the middle of the last century. Exhibits narrating a large part of the story of one of the most important inventions of man, this typography by Gutenberg.
The museum houses the largest collection of prints in Greece, perhaps Europe, as it holds more than 2000 exhibits. At present, only 10% of the collection is on display in two very large rooms on the ground floor of the School of Philosophy.
Much needed to be done to create the museum, such as registering exhibits, mobilizing volunteers, organizing activities, etc. Most of the exhibits are donations, and some were purchased over the years by the University of Ioannina in 1989.
The museums collection includes more than 50 presses, 6 printing units, 7 floor cameras, 26 cutting machines, 15 binding machines and 10 photocopiers. The collection is complemented by lithographic plates, typographical elements, benches, and about a hundred typewriters of various types.
There is also a specialized library of Greek and foreign languages for the history of the book and other exhibits suggestive of our technological culture, such as television sets, telephones, projection cameras, etc.
