The Benkovac fair is tradition that dates back to hundred years ago and takes place in the center of Benkovac every 10th of the month. A large livestock fair attracts people from all over Dalmatia, form south and north Croatia as well as Slavonia. In the past, columns of farmers, traders, craftsmen and the curious people would come to this area to find what they were looking for. In addition to its economic importance, Benkovac fair has gained a touristic connotation over the years as a place that gathers up to 10.000 visitors each month.
Today, the fair takes place outside the city center on the land along the main road. Favorable geo-traffic position, own agricultural resources and traditional life of people in that region, engaging in agriculture and indigenous crafts are the main drivers of development of this area.
The fair always has some key products, depends on the season and the fair is known as place where it is possible to find almost everything. From domestic food products, cosmetic products, tools, vehicles, etc.
The offer of the Benkovac fair is divides into flour from domestic mills brought by Prigorci, Podravci and Međimurci, calves from Varaždin and Bjelovar, and pigs and piglets from Slavonia. The hosts regularly take care of the rich gastronomic offer, which consists of grilled lamb, suckling pig, baked dishes and traditional wine from Ravni Kotari. In this way, the whole Croatia unites in the best it has, and every 10th of the month you can experience rich flavors form all over the country at the Benkovac fair.
