Kastel Fortress is a fortress located in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The fortress is medieval but is situated on the site of previous fortifications going all the way back to Roman and even pre-Roman times. The fortress is relatively well-preserved and is one of Banja Lukas main attractions, situated on the left bank of the Vrbas river in the very center of town. The castle is a real little treasure for all history lovers, considering that it dates back to the 16th century, and was made for the needs of defense against Austria. There is even evidence that in this place, as early as the third century, there was a Roman fortification Kastrum. Today, the fortress is located on an area of 48,000 square meters, with nine bastions, two drops of a tower, as well as a gallery, park, and various festivals are held here, among which the most famous is Demofest, a music festival held in summer, at a time when Banja Luka is the liveliest and full of energy. Historic Site - Kastel Fortress in Banja Luka has been declared a National Monument of BiH.
