Evia consists of the Dirfis mountain range, Mount Ochi, Mount Zarakas and Mount Kandili, some of which are known for their vegetation. The vegetation of Dirfis Mountain is unique. It consists of extensive forests, Abies cephalonica, oaks, chestnut trees and pines, which are combined with Mediterranean macaws, pine forests, garrigue in the lowlands and alpine vegetation on the peaks. Huge plane trees, maples and poplars grow in the streams. Mount Ochi, due to the abundance of surface water, has created an unusual ecosystem. At a high altitude, on the eastern side of the mountain, the last pure forest of chestnut trees in Evia survives, the remnant of the great forests that once covered the whole Ochi.
