- The Albanian Alps have been the most isolated region in Albania due to extremely rugged mountainous terrain. The western entrance to the Alps is from Hoti Snares, located just in the middle of the 97km Shkoder-Vermosh road. Hoti Snares represent a series of successive curves that make the 4-kilometer route winding down the slope of the mountain. They descend from 730 m above sea level to 500 m on the riverbed. The curves that make up the Hot Leaks are six and their angle is 360 degrees, while the slope of the road goes up to 5%. The promised road to the time of the Albanian Kingdom (1927-1939) was realized by the so-called voluntary work of Albanian students at the end of the 1960s. However, the contemporary parameters of this route were met only during the last decade. Hoti Snares are the first and startling stop on the way to the Lepusha and Vermosh, the northernmost corner of the Republic of Albania. They rise above the valley of the Cem, which is the only river that flows through Albania but does not flow into our territory. It continues its way to Montenegro, the border that looks ahead, to the left of the Hoti Snares natural balcony. Hoti Snares are considered among the most panoramic mountain roads in Albania.120
